ABOUT MRS. KING

Mrs. King grew up in Michigan with two brothers. She went to the University of Michigan and studied Education with a math major and science minor. When she graduated in 2006, Mrs. King moved to California and has been teaching math (and science too) to middle school students since then.

In her free time, Mrs. King loves to play volleyball in Chico, take walks with Mr. King and her son, William, and play board games with friends.

A HIGH ACADEMIC STANDARD

Sixth grade math is a gateway to Algebra and beyond. This year we will be studying integers, fractions, decimals, basic geometry, proportions, percents, and one-step equations and inequalities.

In order to receive full credit on homework assignments, students must meet five requirements: 1) completed on time 2) all questions answered 3) done in pencil 4) Sycamore heading and 5) all work shown. Students can have all answers wrong, but as long as they gave their best effort and met the requirements above, they will receive 5 points for their efforts.

Students should not have more than 30 minutes of math homework any night. If at any time your child spends 30 minutes his/her math and has not finished, please have them stop and sign their paper with a quick note saying so. This is a good way to communicate with me so I can make sure students understand the material without being frustrated. Depending on the situation, I will either ask the student to work with me at lunch on the assignment or I will assign full credit without further work.

In order to better prepare sixth graders for higher level of mathematics, I set high standards for my students. Work needs to be shown in a neat, organized way on every assignment. Calculators will rarely be used, as many of the skills taught this year are computation based.
